It seems like it was only yesterday when I had first met (Now Writer and Director) Matt Steel.
I was telling him about "The Storage Unit of Terror and he told me he was writing a script for a horror movie that he wanted to make.
And once he had the final draft he would start the process of making it.
That's when I said "The best way to go about it is to make it and self distribute like my friend Thomas Berdinski (Giant Rubber Monster Movie, Italian Zombie Movie Parts 1&2 and Noirmageddon). Don't expect to become a millionaire overnight. Just do it because you've always wanted to and try to keep the budget within reason".
Not long after he bought a HD camera and had begun his quest of scouting locations, assembling a cast and getting props together.
And had me build a leg brace for the main character.
I had gone with this design because Matt had told me that the main character (Killer) was a veteran who had lived alone in the Pine Barrens. Matt had said he wanted it to look like he was issued a brace by the V.A. but over the years it had become worn and needed repairs.
So we decided to make it look as if he were handy and had replaced parts with whatever he could salvage, and eventually it got to the point where it was pretty much rebuilt altogether.
After I had built it Matt had actually worn it to break it in and did the distress detailing himself.

Matt is currently in production and is doing a Kickstarter to build a working budget for the production. He only needs 3000 for the extended budget and has some pretty cool rewards for donators.

I know a lot of people have very strong opinions about Kickstarter type sites. But I look at it as I'm helping people make projects that I want to see. I'm not saying you have to give to every single one out there, but you can support the ones you know or take a chance on a unknown with a small donation. If the unknown comes through then you can support their future projects. If that unknown doesn't deliver, you're only out five dollars and you know not to back that person again.
I've given to a few over the years and I've been really happy with the end products. And others where I couldn't give monetary donations, I've provided services and have been able to enjoy these projects after their completion.
